Guided walks

The end of a world

A charming walk to understand the changes in society after the shock of WWI

The beginning of World War I was the end of an era.

“Poor little Belgium”  struggled to fight within a tiny part of its territory with the help of the defenders of its neutrality.

The trauma of this first industrial conflict provoked huge distress among several layers of the population: not only the poorer citizens, but also the rich “middle classes” whose wealth came from the industrial revolution. Nothing will be the same again: the beginning of women’s emancipation, the first “social” laws, the first linguistic legislation, etc.
