Bastogne, located in the heart of the beautiful Ardennes region (southern Belgium), is famous for the part it played during the Battle of the Bulge, Sunday, December 16th, 1944.
People of the Ardennes have their minds set on the first Christmas since the liberation of Belgium. Suddenly all hell breaks loose. Hundreds of German artillery weapons with their unseen destructive force try to capture the American positions in the Belgian Ardennes. A total of 250,000 soldiers, accompanied by 1000 tanks, try to march through the Ardennes.
Numerous soldiers fell on the battlefield: 19,000 Americans, 1000 British and 20,000 Germans, but also 2,500 Belgian civilians and 500 natives Luxemburgers.
Our guide will take you on a day dedicated to remembrance of the war, and to reflect on its causes.
We'll experience this on our visit to the Battle of the Bulge new Museum (optional visit) and the Mardasson memorial.
